India Will Deactivate 25 Million Phones on January 2009

In early 2009 India reported will deactivate as much 25 million mobile phones for security reasons. Phone without IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) and unregistered phone card to be directly deactivated and can not be used.

The policy alleged to be a result of tragedy Mumbai some time ago. Many parts assess the tragedy occurred because of weak monitoring of cellular phones in India. Department of Telecommunications India (DoT) has issued to all telecommunications network operators to deactivate all unregistered cards and phones without IMEI begin on January 6th 2009.

This Operational Mobile Phone Policy also triggered by many illegal mobile phone imports from China includes the IMEI. To do the actual deactivating, DoT has given time during the six months to prepare everything so that technically the operators will be ready on next January 2009.
